Buncombe county grand jury charged Bishop R Harris of the Second Episcopal District AME Zion and eight Hopkins Chapel trustees with arson. They were arrested and released on $500 bonds. Evidence by Frank Jordan, deputy state fire insurance commissioner. The church was insured for 1000 before the fire, then 8000 additional coverage. the building burned two months after.
Robert Harris writes from Dodge City Kansas to thank those who aided his family during his father’s imprisonment in La Junta Colorado and his own acquittal on June 27. He fled the state briefly, now praises helpers and hopes to repay kindness by helping others harmed by prejudice someday.
The great Mid-Summer Carnival opens Wednesday night in Kansas City with Orient costumes across the crowd of about 100. The event runs until Friday, July 31, drawing excitement around the two queen contenders. Church services include a Sunday sermon at 11:00 A. M. and an illustrated sermon by Rev. W C Williams at 8:00 P. M. at Paseo near Eighteenth Street.

The Tuskegee Institute in Alabama strengthens its Mule and Horse Breeding Department to meet rising national demand for quality animals. Reports from Missouri mule markets and eastern westward horse trade show prices up, with well fed animals selling easier than in years. The institute trains specialists to breed and care for high quality stock amid growing farm interests in the South.
A Veterinary Department operates on the school grounds with a graduate veterinarian in charge. It studies horses and mules from hoof to mane and provides thorough knowledge of diseases and treatment to many young men each year.
The verse extols Shakespeare as unmatched in dramatic genius and timeless fame. It praises his art as perfect and unrivaled, comparing him with historic poets and noting his enduring influence on the world stage. Charles A. Starks is mentioned as well.
The new Negro enterprise conduct ed by Mr Chau and A Starks at 1621 East Eighteenth Street will open for business next Sunday July 12.
