Lynn Maddox a Black man fatally shot his wife Mrs Romeo Maddox on January 1 at their residence on Eleventh Street and then killed himself. Both bodies were removed for burial in Linneus Missouri. Jealousy was stated as the apparent motive in the fatal incident.
The Annual Tuskegee Negro Conference will hold its 26th session at Tuskegee Institute on Wednesday and Thursday, January 17 and 18. Thousands from all sections of the country will attend. the gatherings are noted for inspiration and education.
Emancipation Day services under the auspices of the Missionary Alliance at Ebenezer Church at 16th and Lydia avenues on January 1 drew a large, enthusiastic crowd. The Ebenezer Choir provided music and speakers included Rev Dr Sheafe of Saint Angeles Br J Ransom of Kansas City Kansas and Editor N C Crows. Rev Richard Davie served as Master of Ceremonies.
Lincoln High School hosts a Sunday concert at Lincoln Hall featuring Knight Templar Band led by Maj. N Clark Smith assisted by Argentine Male Quartet and several soloists. The program includes works by Gounod Bizet Meyer and others, concluding with Star Spangled Banner. Special guests are residents of the Jackson County Home for Aged and Infirm Colored Men and Women, with local colored citizens offering free auto transportation.
The State Baptist Convention of Oklahoma president and National Baptist Convention vice president will preach at St. Stephen's Baptist Church 604 Charlotte on Monday evening January 8 1917. The church held a Christmas Eve all night service with many prodigal sons returning and sinners seeking mercy in a traditional Southern revival led by Rev J W Hurse and Rev L Jones.

John W Williams a respected Kansas City police officer and former firefighter died at age 46 10 months after birth in Buffalo on February 10 1870 The funeral was held at the Christian Church with Amos Johnson lodge and a police and fire brigade escort Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery Kansas City Kansas The obituary notes his role in capturing two ex convicts and saving Mrs Jackson from assault praising his character and service
Francis Jackson Garrison youngest son of the late William Lloyd Garrison died Monday at 68. An author and publisher born in Boston October 29, 1848 he worked with Riverside Press and Houghton Mifflin. He authored Ann Phillips Wife of Wendell Phillips and coauthored William Garrison His Life Told by Children.
