Boy refuses to salute flag over race rights
In Des Moines March 24 Hubert Eaves eleven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Eaves prompted national attention by declining to salute the U S flag at school. He argues the flag does not protect Black citizens amid Jim Crow laws and segregation and says he will salute only when the government grants equal protection. He was sent back to school by Judge Dudley and his case sparks debate on patriotism and civil rights.

Concert by Givid Boone and company draws large crowd
The Ladies' Aid of First Methodist raised over 700 dollars at Convention Hall to fund a parsonage. Givid Boone led a concert with soprano Miss Marie Jackstann and mezzo-soprano Siine Marguerite Boyd.
