NASA officials announced a lunar orbital mission likely to launch around Christmas with liftoff no earlier than December 21. The plan envisions a crewed or robotic path to lunar orbit, contingent on vehicle readiness and weather.
NASA announced a staged Apollo 8 mission from Cape Kennedy with a Dec 21 earliest launch. Three astronauts would orbit the moon up to 10 times then return to a Pacific splashdown on Dec 28, testing Saturn V and lunar orbit procedures for a potential moon landing.
Memphis AP James Earl Ray’s first degree murder trial for the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was delayed to March 3.
