Mrs Richard M Nixon, long married to a politician, says she would prefer Tricia marry someone outside politics. Reports noted Tricia's escort at a White House masked ball was newly elected Rep Barry M Goldwater Jr. She added she would feel sorry if Tricia wed a politician, but has enjoyed her own marriage.
At least six people were killed and over fifty injured when two jets attacked two villages about 14 miles northwest of Umuahia. The planes strafed and rocketed markets, set a building ablaze, and damaged two cars as bullets filled the highway.
General Omar N. Bradley, the only living five star U S general, was awarded a Los Angeles County plaque naming him a patriot extraordinaire. He said no one likes to fight but someone must defend freedom when the challenge arises.
A negotiating committee at Lincoln University votes to urge the board of curators to grant amnesty to students involved in five days of demonstrations if they return to classes and cease all protests. A Senate bill to establish the commission could pass today and move to the House. He warned that without reform the administration remains unwieldy and costly.
U S Senator Stephen M Young denounces Brig. Gen. Nguyen Ngoc Loan as a murderer for his Tet Offensive execution of a bound Viet Cong officer. Loan, wounded in Saigon street fighting, is to receive treatment at Walter Reed General Hospital with diplomatic status and U S medical care. Young calls the transfer an affront to Americans and adisgraceful episode linked to the Saigon militarist regime.
