Former President Truman endorsed Sen. Stuart Symington of Missouri for the Democratic presidential nomination at a Washington news conference. Truman hailed Symington as the best qualified man and said the Democrat could win a large electoral vote majority in November. Symington said he was deeply grateful for the endorsement as campaign aides called the move decisive.
Three men in white mesh caps and zipper jackets robbed the Safeway assistant manager outside 3324 Main Street after an armored car delivered currency. The bandits fled in a car abandoned at 101 West Thirty-first Street and a white Oldsmobile. The assistant manager Robert Nick, 29, from 1635 Woodland Boulevard Kansas City Kansas, suffered a scalp wound and was hospitalized at St. Mary's. Police issued pickup orders.
Jerry Gene Danner a 16 year old resident of 2907 Wheeling Avenue died apparently by a self inflicted gunshot wound near Blue Valley park after telling his mother he would shoot frogs along the Blue River. A note found in his pocket expressed despair and referenced hard times. The coroner listed the death as suicide and relatives cited recent family distress and an automobile accident involving his father as possible factors. The body was found by a friend after an early morning search along the river. Danner had worked recently as a roofer for local firms.
Mrs. Angelina Severino a 56 year old woman was killed when a trailer broke loose from a passing car struck a parked vehicle then bounced onto her lawn and fatally struck her in New York City.
Gatlinburg Tenn May 13 AP reports an inch of snow covered the crest of the Great Smoky mountains today as temperatures fell to the mid 20s.
