Jaycee Leader Vernon Sutton Jr. Dies in Expressway Crash
Vernon Lee Sutton Jr. 32, president of the Kansas City Junior Chamber of Commerce, died when his car struck a concrete island on the Eighteenth Street Expressway ramp and plunged 25 feet into a wall. He had been returning from the JC headquarters where he worked on a 120 page scrapbook and state award entry. Sutton, a Dictaphone salesman, had eight years with the KC JC and had served as president since June. An emergency meeting was held to appoint a temporary successor with a new president to be elected June 2.
