Senator Mike Mansfield urged college leaders to test the constitutionality of cutting off federal aid to students who cause campus violence. He said responsibility for restoring order rests with students, faculties, and administrators, noting campuses are transient institutions.
Baltimore Pittsburgh and Cleveland join 10 AFL teams in new American Conference. Kansas City keeps a limited role in a Kelly Browns division with Oakland Unitas Colts Denver San Diego while Cincinnati moves divisions. Also notes baseball scores and assorted sections.
Tricia Nixon wore a white lace mask at the White House masked ball for about 450 guests aged 20 to 30. The gathering drew second and third generation attendees from Lyndon Johnson kin, Goldwater family, Longworth descendants, and cabinet and diplomatic circles. The scene featured floral decor, elegant gowns, and tents on the terrace under crystal chandeliers.
Missouri mayors urged a revenue sharing fund to stabilize urban budgets. The House killed the plan with amendments after a Senate committee had struck it down, reducing the request from 60 million to about 32 million for the first year, with growth as income rose.

At the University of Kansas in Lawrence, about 175 protesters occupied Memorial Stadium delaying a ROTC cadet review as tensions rose over the Vietnam War. Col. Philip Riedel urged action to restore order while supporting cadet rights amid ongoing disruptions and faculty concerns.
President Nixon’s ambassador-designate to the North Atlantic Council calls for a broader NATO approach addressing human problems. He argues that alliance efforts must extend beyond military aims to improve social and humanitarian conditions across member states.
Fulton Missouri Henry Clay Gold reports Robert F. Ellsworth, likely U S ambassador to NATO, urges a renewed Western Europe United States alliance backed by military strength. He says NATO must stay strong until WWII issues Berlin and Germany are settled. Ellsworth spoke at Westminster College and noted allies will watch his remarks closely.
Severe storms and tornadoes swept through Indiana Ohio and Kentucky injuring about 60 people. In Ohio five homes were destroyed near Monroe and in Indiana a twister damaged Indianapolis rooftops and shelled debris. Salt River Kentucky saw ten dwellings demolished with 25 treated at two hospitals.
The editorial argues the Kansas City school system faces financial collapse. A 98-cent levy and bonds for four new schools face a two-thirds vote next Tuesday. Without funds the district cannot sustain operations beyond a few weeks into next fall.
The weather bureau warned of temperatures dipping into the upper 30s early today due to a large high pressure system bringing Arctic air. The record low for today is 37 degrees from 1946, while the normal low is 54.
Athens AP reports the army backed regime names Basil Vitsaxis aged 49 as the new Greek ambassador to the United States.
The Weather Bureau forecasts fair conditions with a modest cool spell today and tonight. North easterly winds prevail with a low chance of rain, highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. Missouri River stage at 7 pm yesterday was 12.5 feet, down 0.1 foot from 12 hours earlier.
