Senator John F Kennedy swept West Virginia with nearly 62 percent of the vote, bolstering his Democratic presidential bid. He carried 181,738 to Humphrey's 114,214 as Humphrey withdrew in tears, while Lyndon Johnson and Stuart Symington face a steeper climb. Nixon planned immediate campaigning. Kennedy praised Humphrey and noted his convention influence.
Johnson County attorney John J. Gardner told Mayor J Lee Laptad to resign or face ouster. Judge J Marcus Kirtley announced a new Jackson County grand jury will be impaneled at 2 o clock on June 2. A court meeting in blank is set for 9 o'clock next Tuesday to pull approximately 200 names. About 35 prospective jurors will be summoned for final selection. The March term grand jury urged immediate new investigations to continue unfinished work.
