Los Angeles poll shows Thomas Bradley ahead of Mayor Sam Yorty by 17 points with 51.9 to 34.6 percent. 13.5 percent undecided. Bradley leads white voters slightly, big margin among Negro voters and leads Mexican American residents as election set for May 27.
Curtis Moffett a Churchill Downs cashier revealed he overpaid a Derby bettor by 1800. Track officials granted him three years to settle the debt. The Illinois bettor returned the funds the day before this year’s Derby, ensuring the debt was discharged.
Inside Pages reports Bob Cousy resigns as Boston College coach after six years and signs a three year contract to coach the Cincinnati Royals at age 40. He replaces Ed Jucker and played 13 seasons with the Celtics, hailed as one of basketball’s greatest playmakers.

Ten regular marijuana smokers in a laboratory study could not tell fake from real cigarettes as both made them feel mildly high. In separate tests, pills with the active chemical produced greater pulse changes and altered time perception, while fake pills did not. Researchers Reese T. Jones and George C. Stone of Langley Porter Neuropsychiatric Institute and UC San Francisco reported at the American Psychiatric Association conference.
Governor Keith Miller signed a measure to drop the voting age from 19 to 18 in Alaska contingent on a constitutional amendment approved at a referendum next year. The action affects future elections and requires voter approval.

About 200 black Lincoln University students in Jefferson City occupied the main floor of the Student Union center declaring they will stay until a list of about 35 grievances is met. The demands cover academic social and athletic areas and were presented as peaceful and orderly. A spokesman pledged they would not leave until all demands are satisfied come hell or high water.
