Return to Wesleyan Rule and Divorce Law Debate in Methodism
The Methodist Episcopal quadrennial session in Saltillo reports bishops' address urging restoration of John Wesley's rules on worldly amusements and a return to strict discipline. It condemns certain modern amusements and calls for uniform divorce laws synchronized across states to avoid national social decay and factional strife. The address notes church growth in membership and property, and records about 3,036,000 US members and 275,000 worldwide communicants.
