The Prime Minister announces plans to apply for membership in the European Community along with two additional international groups. The move signals a shift in foreign policy and potential new economic ties.
Prime Minister Harold Wilson announced Britain will seek membership in the European Common Market and also join the European Coal and Steel Community and Euratom. He outlined negotiations aims, including agricultural policy, Commonwealth interests, capital movement, and sugar markets, asserting Rome Treaty terms remain workable.
A dispute between dairies and their drivers triggered a strike and lockout affecting about 50 dairies linked to two trade groups. Deliveries halted to most outlets while hospitals ran on special arrangements. Cartage firms kept striking into a ninth day with little settlement in sight.

A circuit court in Naples Florida hears a motion to declare Dr Carl Coppolino insolvent. The ruling would allow him to appeal his murder conviction without paying usual costs. Attorney James Russ notes Coppolino's assets include a car under 500 dollars and a checking account under 100 dollars.
