Three law officers and two Black men are reported slain in a violent incident. The patrolman, aged 28, is identified as Floyd Montgomery. Local authorities investigate motives and suspect involvement.
A shooting at 1424 Forest Avenue injured two others who are hospitalized. The partner of a deceased officer is reported among the wounded. Police continue investigation into the incident.
At 7 AM a 5 gun fusillade wrecked a two story Negro rooming house at 1424 Avenue. Patrolman Floyd Montgomery died after being shot near the doorway and Patrolman Paul Warrington was seriously wounded in the abdomen and shoulder. A Negro couple Erskine Stephenson and Elsie May Lorens likely killed themselves after shooting a woman, as another man Emile Jones was wounded and testified Stephenson had threatened him for courtship with Mrs Hughes.
A patrolman was fatally wounded in Montgomery after a woman related to Mrs Hughes was threatened. Stephen Stephenson fired fifty eight pellets from a shotgun, injuring the patrolman as Jones reported threats and a confrontation in the Hughes building. The suspect fled after the exchange, with police continuing the investigation.

A fifty strong delegation led by Mayor Kemp plans to travel aboard the Army Engineers river boat Sergeant Floyd to greet the new streamlined towboat Harry Truman near the Truman bridge this afternoon. The vessel, completed in February at New Orleans, is making its first Missouri trip and will dock at the Woods Weather district municipal wharf. Among attendees are city manager L P Cookingham and officials John B. Gage Willard Breidenthal and John You.

Natoma Kansas June 28 two flood victims found in Paradise creek about a half mile from town. Agnes Wunderlich 48 and Henry Cortland 32 were lodged in debris. Warren Wunderlich 48 is still missing. The trio had traveled from Gorham and Natoma. Everett Fritts from Gorham survived after reaching a farmhouse. The vehicle and tractor were found downstream from the ford.
The army raises its projection for the number of men required in the initial year of the draft. Officials say higher than expected manpower will be needed to meet training, replacement, and operational goals.
Washington reports the army now estimates 225,000 to 250,000 men will be inducted in the first year of the draft, up from 200,000 to 225,000. The initial call will be small, then rise to an average of about 30,000 monthly inductions.

They see the first major split in the Eastern bloc and suggest Tito and interior chief Rankovic may have been immobilized or removed while the high command denounced them.
Yugoslavia’s press and radio gave no mention to the Cominform attack on Yugoslavia. Reports outside Yugoslavia suggested Tito’s fifty sixth birthday was not telegrammed by Stalin, with Tito believed to be at his summer palace in Bled.
