William F. Judd a 40 year old Trans World Airlines pilot landed his Cessna 180 near Paris after 24 hours 11 minutes aloft. He failed to set a nonstop light plane record from White Plains to Cairo due to ice conditions fatigue and overloaded fuel. Judd said he knew his limits and cut the flight short. He has flown the Atlantic 120 times and aimed to beat the 1949 Odom Honolulu to Teterboro distance. Judd's wife Colette and their son Alan Patrick met him at Toussus Le Noble airfield.

James Creighton, a 50 year old former inmate, was released January 13 after his life sentence was commuted to about 23 years for testifying in seven murder cases linked to the prison riot that killed Walter Lee Donnell. Prosecutor Riley said the state freed him to avoid lethal danger, warning him to self protect. He had been jailed thirteen months in Cole County and briefly detained in Oklahoma while authorities addressed his status. He entered the Missouri penitentiary in 1933 after a Barton County life sentence for Coyne Hatton murder.
