Paris January 26 President Rene Coty asked Socialist leader Guy Mollet to form a new French cabinet. Mollet agreed to try and would seek confirmation from the newly elected National Assembly. If approved he would lead the twenty second cabinet since 1944. A vote was expected Tuesday.

Hugh Lee, 41, died after a blaze in the divan of his living room at 2721 North 22nd Street Kansas City Kansas. Fire Chief William N. Pate said death may have come from burns or suffocation. Damage was about 300 dollars. Lee worked at the General Motors plant in the Fairfax district and was not recently employed. His wife Esther Lee, a Eugene Ware elementary teacher, was summoned from classes.
Washington January 26 AP Russia accepts invitation to attend the February 27 12 nation conference to discuss and draft a statute for an international atomic energy agency. Invited countries include Australia Belgium Brazil Canada Czechoslovakia India France Portugal South Africa and Great Britain. The aim is peaceful uses of atomic energy.
Enid Oklahoma January 26 AP Mrs Ione Weir famed four years ago as a tree climbing nude sleepwalker has filed for divorce from Wesley Weir alleging incompatibility and asking support for their three children. She described her sleepwalking episodes occurring mainly when the moon is full.
Joseph Sola of 345 Benton Boulevard appeared before Magistrate J. J. Brady in Independence as a preliminary hearing was continued to 10 o clock February 9. Sola is charged with receiving stolen merchandise linked to arrests of several men described by the Missouri highway patrol as operators of a large theft ring.
Washington columnist Bri Moore quotes Rep. Wayne L. Hays on congressional travel costs. Hays, a six year House veteran and Farm Bureau Democrat, argues taxpayers care little about junkets while noting most trips average $3,000 per congressman. He says his committee audits expense accounts but accepts rough tallies, citing about 200 trips totaling $600,000 nationwide last year.
