Lawrence Kansas August 6 Dr Laurence G Woodruff has become dean of men at the University of Kansas succeeding Dean Henry Werner who retired after eighteen years in poor health. The Green Diamond passenger train of Illinois Central collided with a Burlington freight near Winston tower two miles south of Litchfield, injuring at least 25 people none seriously. The Diesel loco derailed five coaches overturned, six freight cars toppled, coal scattered, and poles were sheared. Litchfield sits 237 miles southwest of Chicago and 57 miles northeast of St. Louis.

At the Hambletonian trotting stakes in Goshen New York a bleacher collapse during the first heat injured at least sixty one people.
