Kansas City police detective George Edward Lanigan was gravely wounded about 12:30 PM while trying to arrest two men on out of state warrants at 4971 Northeast Prather Road North. Lanigan was taken to North Kansas City Memorial Hospital in serious condition after being shot in the chest with a .38 revolver. The two suspects, both wounded, were also hospitalized. one faced robbery and the other parole violation warrants. The confrontation occurred as officers moved in on a trailer house behind Harold's Tavern. Both suspects used .38 revolvers. one weapon had four shots fired.
