Defense secretary calls up 24,500 reserves for Vietnam
Secretary Clark M. Clifford announced a plan to activate about 24,500 reservists from Army Navy and Air Force with roughly 10,000 assigned to South Vietnam. He said the President intends to keep U S forces in Vietnam at about 549,500 and that a gradual shift of major effort to the South Vietnamese is planned after consultations with Saigon officials and in light of their force increase.
