Senator Peffer spoke in Garnett at the Grand Opera House with an overflow crowd. Markley, People's candidate for state senator from the Seventh district, spoke about twenty minutes to strong applause. An evening session followed. Rev. J. K. White, candidate for county superintendent of public instruction, also delivered a short, stirring address. Tuesday's meetings were highly satisfactory for Populists and supporters and noted for its business-focused, reasoned discourses.

Death of Garnett Leader Frank Barber by Suicide
Garnett was shocked when Frank G Barber shot himself in an outhouse during a personal crisis. He died about 4 30 p m Friday after being carried home for care. Barber served as Garnett mayor and county commissioner, was in the state legislature, and was a veteran of an Ohio regiment. His funeral will be Friday at 2 30 p m from the family home.

Wrecked Passenger Train Near Osage City Sees Fatal Toll
On Wednesday morning, Atchison Topeka Santa Fe passenger train No 8 was wrecked about three miles west of Osage City by unknown miscreants. Four were killed and twenty five seriously injured as the engine and multiple cars plunged over an embankment. The express car carried over a million dollars with guards aboard, yet robbers left the money untouched. No clue has been reported and authorities suspect fright from the wreck.
