The Cuyahoga Savings and Banking Company of Cleveland closed its doors on Monday triggering a crowd of hundreds of depositors, mostly working people, clamoring for their money. Officers say depositors will be paid in full. The writer suggests postal savings banks to prevent such losses.
A Chicago apartment fire killed seven residents and seriously injured others. Firemen blocked access as a freight train blocked the way. The fire marshal ordered the conductor to move the train, but he refused. Police arrested the train crew who were later released on bail.

In Doniphan County thirty farmers formed a cooperative to connect two towns with a telephone line to the county seat. The project cost 400 dollars, about 13 dollars per person, demonstrating cooperation. The Kansan Populist notes many farmers would pay for such a link but have not organized to do it.
The second annual debate between Kansas and Colorado state universities is set for May 17 in Lawrence. Kansas will be represented by Wm. F. Mowry of Wichita and Chas. A. Gardner of Baldwin on the affirmative: that civilization requires dismemberment of China.
