Allen Manley of Garnett aged about seventy, a well known colored citizen, died Wednesday morning after a long illness. He came from Tennessee in 1881 with his wife and ten children all of whom survive. He was devout and honest and earned wide respect. condolences are offered to his grieving family.

Kans Herrington born 1833 in New York moved through Michigan to Anderson county Kansas arriving in 1876. A farmer and sheep raiser, he married twice and left a legacy of honest labor, socialism influence, and leadership as county commissioner before dying of cystitis at almost seventy. Funeral oration by S. Lewin praised his blunt kindness and steadfast integrity.
