Fire destroys new police station and claims two lives

Shortly before nine oclock Tuesday evening a blaze swept through the new police station before firefighters arrived. Keeper Lawler was away and no one was present when the fire started. Two city residents, Conners and Dillion, were the only occupants and burned to death. It is thought a lighted pipe in Conners pocket ignited the flame while he slept in the cell. The Second ward polling place had been in the station, and rumors about the origin fueled last nights excitement.
