Segovia Voters Approve School Tax Increase
Segovia residents approved raising the local school tax from 20 to 50 cents per 100 valuation to support a two teacher school in the future. Mary Ellis Blackburn has been hired to teach this year and an additional room will be added before next school year.

Criminal Court Docket Taken Up Wednesday
District Court opened with the criminal docket scheduled. State v Loeffler set for Monday, State v Bishop for Thursday. A 72 man venire was ordered for Loeffler and Bishop, returnable Friday. State v Richardson was first called with jury selection and trial starting about 10 a.m.

Adam Murr Dies After Brief Illness in Junction
Adam Murr died at 4 45 AM in the Santa Rosa Infirmary San Antonio after two operations and illness. He was born February 24 1859 in Lancaster County Pennsylvania and came to New Orleans with his brother at 18. He lived in Kimble County before moving to Junction where he led business and public life. He served as vice president of First National Bank and was involved with Junction Hardware Co and Hawkins Drug Co. He leaves his wife Ellen Mayes eleven children two brothers and four sisters. The funeral was held at Copperas Cemetery with Masonic rites and large town turnout.

Newton E Keen Dies at Beaumont
Newton Eldredge Keen died of pneumonia Monday at his Beaumont residence 610 Sabine Pass Avenue. He was an Assistant Chemist for Magnolia Petroleum Co. and athletic director of the Refinery and editor of Mag-Pet-Co. He taught in Houston, was born in Hill County, graduated from Southwestern University, did Harvard postgrad work, and served as an expert chemist in Washington during the War. His wife was Fay Rice of Midlothian. He left friends in the area who recall his visit last summer.

Soaking Rains Boost Sure Fall Grass Growth
Augmenting light rains from last week, heavier showers hit most of the county this week. Sunday’s downpour flooded the northern area and spread east. many places reported up to half an inch. Monday brought rain in Junction for most of the afternoon, totaling over two inches countywide except for a few small sections. Rain was light from the ten mile crossing on North Llano to Roosevelt and along a strip up South Llano, while London measured heavier falls than Junction. A heavy shower reached Kerrville area near Mountain Home.
