A speech delivered at the Junction Public School opening three weeks ago emphasizes restraint, citizenship, and character as essential assets for students. It frames education as preparation for life in a governed society, linking home, school, and law to moral development and national progress.
The Fair Committee reports a remaining balance of $223.86 on deposit for the next county fair after a financially solid event. They urge more exhibits and planning to improve the fair. Randolph and Reese propose using future profits to fund a new agricultural exhibit hall at Schreiner Park. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Wilson visited from Taft.
Rudolph Becker Sr a longtime county resident died at his Junction home at 730 pm Monday after a brief illness Born April 12 1847 at Dunkirk New York he came to Texas in 1871 living in Brownwood Austin San Saba and finally Junction He was a railway engineer and later a shop foreman and served in the U S secret service He was a member of the I O O F for over 50 years He married Sallie Bell Quicksall in Cherokee May 22 1892 and is survived by his wife and children Lillie May Farr Clara Powell Flora Hardin Mary E Newton and Rudolph L Becker Funeral services were held at the residence with Rev E L Kelley and burial followed in the local cemetery Death attributed to infection and diabetes.
The Presbyterian congregation, newly organized last month, will continue worship at the Methodist church with the pastor preaching at 11 o clock next Sunday morning. Fellow worshipers and friends are invited. There will also be preaching at Eight Mile school house on North Llano at 3 p.m. W. L. Downing.
Rocksprings High School football beat Junction 3 to 0 in the season opener. Local squad, mostly new players, fought hard but fell to the visitors who had played earlier games. Visiting team accompanied by Prof. Seth Young, principal and coach. Lineup listed with coach Prof. Bui sen. Referee Ben Dechert.
Mrs Stella C Vodrie Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter Texas Order of the Eastern Star visited the local chapter last Saturday evening. She was accompanied by Mr Vodrie and other out of town visitors from San Antonio Menard Roosevelt Fort McKavett and Kerr County. Local hosts were Judge and Mrs Stevenson and Dr and Mrs Hargis plus Mr and Mrs Horner with various ranch visits noted.
The P T A met in the school auditorium with plans to hire a nurse later, order a 50 volume Loan Library set for public and pupil use Fridays, and improve the walk to the school. Sand and gravel will fix Mud holes at the west entrance. The Gold side led a membership campaign by Mrs Riley Felps, Whites to host winners and patrons Friday night at 8. J M Bishop moves address to Hot Springs. Several local residents report rain, school visits, and road improvements in Gillespie County.
