Deferred grazing and rotation build pastures

Recent visits to the Clay Holland Joy Murr and Murray Jarvis ranches show pastures improving most this year where rotation and deferred grazing were used. Higher grasses such as sidecats grama nearby grama and little bluestem have thickened with increased ground cover. The system concentrates more livestock in one or more pastures for 2 to 3 months while another is deferred for an equal period, with timing varying by pasture. Upper Llanos Soil Conservation District Office technicians in Kimble County offer tailored range conservation consultation.
