Ten House Members Flip Flop On Labor Bill Vote

Ten Texas congressmen shifted positions after initially backing the Wood labor bill which passed 217 to 203 and then voting to kill the measure the next day amid federal pressure over the Lesinski bill. The Lesinski proposal would repeal Taft Hartley, reenact Wagner, and curb state closed shop laws. The Wood substitute kept some labor and management controls, sparing state laws on the closed shop. The speaker notes a Texas split on killing Lesinski with Wood, with ten supporting Wood. Also notes Brannan’s Texas trip visiting Waco and Lubbock, plus a World War memorial reminder in Junction declaring Poppy Day on May 28.
