Sales Tax Unnecessary Says Yale Professor and Tax Attorney
Washington May 26 The Senate Finance Committee heard arguments against a general sales tax from Prof. Frd R Fairchild of Yale and J F Zollers tax attorney for General Electric Co They argued exemptions nullify the Canadian model and that a turnover tax would not be simplified nor balanced by the sales tax They warned it would shift burdens to consumers and unlikely to replace income taxes or remove other levies. Senator Penrose noted no such information and defended the income tax.
