Romney audit reveals deficits in House Officer funds
The General Accounting Office audited the Capitol Hill Sergeant at Arms office for the first time since 1890. It showed a deficit of 125000 with prior shortages, including a Florida congressman overdrawn by 64000 and a former employee stealing 25000. Romney reportedly cashed checks with no funds, and the audit has been referred to the Justice Department. Col Douglas B Smith of San Saba, a West Texan war veteran, was praised by Lt General Devers for his service with the 75th Division in Europe and is awaiting a future foreign assignment.
