R E Homann and team members Wilson Buster George Robert Pepper James Hubbell and C W McCarroll Jr won first place for Junction High School in sheep judging at the Smith Hughes state judging contests held at A and M College. The team also judged beef cattle and goats earning banner honors amid contests with 1300 boys from 176 schools.
The Junction to Kerville mail departs at 7:45 a.m. instead of 8:15 a.m. effective today April 25 per Postmaster Earl Tracy. This allows businessmen in Junction to have letters reach San Antonio by 1:00 p.m. if mailed for the 7:45 a.m. mail, compared with the previous 7:45 p.m. arrival.
Judge J B Randolph calls County School Board meeting at the Courthouse Monday afternoon May 6 at two o clock. The rally aims to advance schools and invites everyone in the county to attend. Trustees will be classified and vacancies filled with a Department of Education representative from Austin to explain school laws. Local trustees and friends of education urged to attend.
A rain totaling .75 of an inch fell last Friday morning providing moisture for planting. Farmers and sandmen are hopeful for more rain soon as vegetation has grown and prospects look good this Thursday morning. Moisture fell in parts of the county last night with only light showers elsewhere. Good rains and warm weather are the greatest needs today.
Both circles of the Baptist Woman's Missionary Society will meet at 3 p m Friday afternoon for a business meeting. All members are urged to attend.
The Junction High School senior play The Charm School directed by Mrs Conde Hardeman and Miss Pairalee Linn is set for May 15. Cast includes Mabel Hodges Lenore Riley Annie Laura Braley Will Alwin Linn Renzie Weaver Imadelle Cottle Lena House Leola Jetton Ruby Simon George Winsip Phillips Bishop Tyrus Holland John Riley Gardner Roy Bierschwale Louzon Tinsley.
Fragrant wild flowers and roses enhanced a Baptist Church display during Sunday services. Judges awarded first prize to the junior department and second to the intermediate division for best flower arrangement. About thirty wild flower varieties were shown from Sunday school departments and yard gardens.
A Friday 4 p m benefit football game at Junction Field features the Seniors against a class-selected opponent to raise funds for the gymnasium. Tickets are 10 cents at the gate, proceeds go to the gym fund, and Coach Earl Bowers notes the team is in good shape for a thriller.
At the Junction Lions Club meeting held at the Methodist Church Annex, the Junction Fire Department, led by Leon R. Powell and Ollie Floyd, gave a First Aid drill. About twenty five Lions attended with President Clay Secrest guiding the noon luncheon program.
White Bluff School wrapped up a successful term with a Friday April 19 picnic and Easter egg hunt followed by an evening program. Rain interrupted the daytime picnic plans, and the term marked White Bluff’s first with two teachers.
For the third straight month new passenger car sales in Texas rose in March. UT Bureau reports from fifteen counties total 6,433 cars, up 23 percent from February and 30 percent from March 1934, with first quarter sales at 16,157 cars, a 62 percent rise year over year.
Mr and Mrs George H De Lano visited in Austin Saturday and Sunday with local acquaintances.
A large turnout filled Junction Baptist Church on Sunday at six o clock to hear the cantata Easter Tide performed by the high school choir with city church voices. Miss Hellire Patterson directed the program which started at 6 15 and proceeded without delay. The venue showcased abundant wildflowers gathered by Baptist Sunday school departments. Each number was well rendered and attendees felt the early rising trip paid off.
About 100 representatives along Highway No 4 in Texas gathered in Menard for talks on finishing gaps in the Great Plains Highway. Herman Toepperwein of Menard was elected president of the Texas division. Committee members were chosen and plans were approved to push progress with the highway, which runs from Canada to Mexico City.
A big mohair sale ends Tuesday with about 2.5 million pounds moved from warehouses to buyers at 25 cents a pound for grown hair and 35 to 37 cents for kid hair. Schreiner Wool and Mohair Co led with 600,000 pounds sold to M A Campbell. Ranchers expect profits and vow better goat care.
Mr and Mrs E R Borden returned Tuesday from Houston where they attended the Rotary district conference.
A county call announces an 8:00 PM Saturday meeting in the county courtroom for all irrigation interested people to discuss plans for the Llano alleys. The meeting seeks full attendance to provide definite data for Washington and Kimble county. Also notes local visits by Mr and Mrs J A Heyman and Mrs Rudolph Becker with related family updates.
