obituary notes Congressman W. H. Parker a Civil War veteran and pioneer of South Dakota. Born May 4 1847 in Danville W VA he served as U S attorney and U S congressman before moving to Deadwood and contributing to law and state constitutional development.
An alternative writ by Sheriff Young compels the Great Northern railway to restore daily passenger service between Watertown and Huron with baggage mail and express. The writ notes the company’s alleged failure to comply with an order by the South Dakota railway commission and requires the company to show cause before Judge Whiting on July 15.
In a home ceremony Mrs. S. G. Wiand hosted the wedding of her daughter Cora to Mr. Geo. Hoft. Floral decorations were arranged by F. C. Stoltenberg and the parlors featured palms and white pansies, creating a tasteful setting for the union in this city.
The pupils presented a program Friday evening before a large audience. The lineup included a ladies quartet Love's Old Sweet Song, a duet from Il Trovatore, a flower song, a trombone solo Thoughts of Love, and selections from Rose Maiden and other works. Notable performers were Julia VanderStein Ethel Eckels Anita Owen Mrs Brown Dr Ringsdorf and Mr Churchill.

A crowded schedule outlines a carnival day with gun salute at 9:00 a m public shows by steam calliope at 9:30 and 10:00 athletic contests on west 3rd street and Dakota avenue a flying trapeze act a human fly and a diamond ring queen contest at 5:00 pm a high dive supper and hose race finale with free admission all day and repeated performances by the Huron Concert band and parade floats closing with a high dive and a Goy Coe portrait viewing
Friday night featured Huron night with Frank Emerson and Jaynes presenting city improvement scenes to a large audience in the auditorium. The screen listed ten goals including a real sewer system, hospital, more wholesale houses, stronger fire protection, railroad competition, and closer town village cooperation.
The contract is let for a two story business block to be built south of Alford's jewelry store. It will be 100 feet long of compressed brick with gas and electric lights and modern conveniences. Completion is due by mid September. Charles Bryant leads the enterprise and Frank Jaehn of Springfield Minnesota is the contractor.

Caleb Powers recently freed from eight years in a Kentucky prison for alleged involvement in Gov. William Gobel murder is visiting Miss Eleanor Bonham of York Pennsylvania. Rumor says they are engaged. Powers plans to travel to Battle Creek Michigan to regain his health after a short stay.
In Walworth County on June 9, precinct three where land filing irregularities against Governor Crawford were raised, nineteen Republican voters participated and Crawford received nineteen votes. The voters know the governor's land ties, yet all voted for Crawford, a pointed campaign setback for opponents. Beau Phenix notes the incident as a campaign lesson and a sign of partisan tension across state and county.
An editorial condemns Fourth of July fireworks for causing hundreds of injuries and fatalities annually. It urges prohibiting fireworks for children, removing fire hazards, and enacting laws to limit powder amounts. It warns about dangerous devices and the risk of lockjaw from chlorate paper caps.
At the regular semi monthly meeting the council referred a petition by seventy residents to the street and alley committee for a drainage ditch to the river and authorized the committee to dig it. A second petition by forty businessmen asked Parker Carnival to be located on city streets. the council approved locating the carnival under committee direction.
The Huron District Epworth League convention met at the Methodist church with Rev J M Tibbett as secretary. Delegates discussed many topics with devotion to service and Rev Tibbett presented an paper on the Epworth League’s nineteen year old daughter of Methodism. Leaders from Alee and Highmore led talks, and Redfield’s speaker addressed lecture sain and the lyceum bureau. Elections named officers for the coming year including vice presidents from Huron and Perre, a secretary from Steuben, and a junior supervisor from Redfield, with an informal social to close the event.
A passenger train derailed after striking cattle seven miles from Columbia North Dakota at 4 am. Engineer M Murray survived initial exposure but died Tuesday after being rescued and hospitalized. Fireman Kerkow sustained a broken collarbone. Funeral held at St Martin's church with Knights of Columbus escort.
The court holds a town may issue a license only if a majority of all votes cast support the license. Since total voters are unknown, the majority is based on ballots cast. Several towns that appeared to favor license will be dry under this standard, as opinions among judges varied previously.
