A Charleston Courier report recounts the capture of John Davis, alias Jeff Davis, with his wife and Mrs. Clay among the arrested. The sergeant identified the trio after exposing the disguise, and they were confined aboard the steamer W. W. Clyde then sent to Fortress Monroe. The piece notes Union pursuit, political fallout, and Confederate public notices about uniforms and governance amid war.
