The Hopper Rotarians visited the American Steel and Wire Scott Street plant for inspection, then proceeded to Rockdale for a second inspection of the wire company property before returning to Joliet at 3 o clock.
A well dressed man visiting Smith and McGuire on Van Buren Street stole a tray holding nineteen uncut diamonds valued at 1333.50 after placing his overcoat near the display. The theft occurred in the afternoon. a woman entering at the time may have been a confederate.
In probate court yesterday Judge Drew approved a settlement of a claim against the Chicago and Joliet Electric Railway. Executrix Mabel E. Robinson of the estate of Enos Wesley Robinson reported that he died from injuries received December 13 1920 when struck by a street car. The railway offered 2500 to settle all claims and the court authorized acceptance.
Philadelphia Oct 19 Louis Lively a Black man accused of the brutal murder of 7 year old Matilda Russo of East Moorestown New Jersey was captured at Vineland New Jersey early today Police report the arrest follows a nationwide manhunt and ends early morning in Vineland with Lively in custody awaiting further interrogation and trial in the Moorestown case

He warned of a postwar buyer’s market lasting years, urged systematic distribution study, and noted many firms’ insolvency without better efficiency and plans based on facts. Andrew Koludrovick, buyer for The Eagle store, identified eleven trousers in W Finkelstein's effects as Eagle property. Finkelstein entered the store Oct 12 around 11 30 left his cases, returned at noon, and departed with them. He was later arrested after a clerk saw him cram seven trousers into a bag. Sample cases held about 25 pairs of trousers with Eagle goods. Finkelstein claimed to be a clothing broker.

He alleges he has sent money and urged her to join him but she deserted him, married another man in Grodno, and remains there while he maintains a home and seeks her return.
A man calling himself Ora E Wheddon attempted two fraudulent checks in Joliet yesterday. He presented a ten dollar note made out to H R and signed by Dr F L Talcott, drawn on First National Bank at Barretts, fled when questioned. He then tried a Dr French signed check at People's Credit, left when refused. He was later arrested near Webster Street by police.
Washington October 19 Plans for tighter federal enforcement of prohibition laws were set at a conference between John K Jellander director of Prohibition and Commissioner Haynes The plan calls for a new enforcement area at Decatur to be led by a head and twelve agents to be named soon Haynes will travel to Illinois in days to assess the situation personally.
New Haven report notes Marshal Foch will be awarded an honorary title in ceremony planned for today in the city. Officials and residents anticipate a formal tribute honoring the Allied commander amid wartime recognition events.
Greene County school board last night ordered new bright locks on all doors of the high school to close off unlighted rooms once used by couples. The board cited reports of students leaving secluded areas in various building sections. The meeting approved an electrically operated mimeograph and several bills though totals were unavailable due to a broken adding machine. Textbooks for Americanization classes will be purchased as many students cannot afford their own books. The board plans to send Dr Werner and Dr Smith to the state meeting in Springfield October 27 and 28 to raise Joliet high school issues. The boiler discussion sparked tense moments as the fireman was criticized for insufficient firing knowledge and the doctor threatened to take over the job.
Passers by noted the row of perambulators as Child Welfare Day drew families to the Steel Works club yesterday afternoon. Mike and Percy Raglan, described as brothers, confessed to numerous burglaries and thefts in Joliet. A desk sergeant and officers questioned them after a minor burglary led to their capture. Confessions revealed skeleton keys and a cache of goods, tying them to a two month crime wave.

Mr and Mrs Nicholas Hammel renew vows at St Johns Catholic church on Hickory street to mark fifty years since their marriage. The ceremony was followed by a breakfast at their home on North Center street and an informal reception. The couple, now longtime Joliet residents, are parents and grandparents with sixteen grandchildren and many in attendance.
