Clarence Hissong, 20, was arrested after attempting to drive away a Nash coupe stolen from Victor Lindblom of Venona Illinois during a five minute cigarette stop at Osgood and York. Capt. McCraney and Detective Delaney made the capture as Hissong approached the driver's seat. He admitted taking the car to return to a jotter and claimed no intent to keep or sell it. He is being held at police headquarters pending further investigation into related auto disappearances. He had lived at 310 S Chicago Street until two weeks ago. Police learned of the coupe's presence in the Sixth ward early this morning.

Chris Christensen a longtime Will County resident died at his Patterson road home. Born in Denmark on December 14 1848 he came to the United States in 1868 and married Elizabeth Tea in 1883. Survived by four children Oscar Wilbert and two daughters, eleven grandchildren, funeral Friday at 2 pm with services at the residence and burial in Trautman Grove Cemetery. Rev Brerekes of Elwood to officiate. Flowers omitted per request.
Reports from southern Japan describe the worst floods in the nation’s history with more than 300 dead and 12,000 homes submerged or swept away. In Oita prefecture the flood loss is estimated at twenty million yen about ten million dollars as high waters persist after record rainfall.
Washington June 23 Senator McCumber Republican North Dakota blasted stay-at-homes shipyard grafters and slackers on the senate floor. He demanded fulfillment of the sacred financial obligations of the nation to soldiers and sailors and said the stay-at-homes reaped enormous financial advantages over the army at their expense.
Jock Hutchison of Glenview Country Club Chicago led the British Open medal play after 18 holes scoring 72. He holed the ninth in two and made a 50 yard ace at the eighth. Bobby Jones posted 78 while Ted Ray shot 76. Hoffner and Braid each finished 75.
Chicago and Joliet Electric Railway workers will start July 1 at 50 and 65 cents per hour. The five cent reduction, approved at a conference, lowers the current rate. "Big Tim" Murphy is back in his old Joliet county jail cell after the federal grand jury in Chicago indicted him for complicity in the $350,000 Dearborn station robbery on April 6. He was ordered returned to Joliet yesterday and reassigned to his cell by Jailer Nottman last night.
Hillsdale Ind June 23 The tale of a $69,900 loan to Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 during his Bull Moose candidacy was disclosed as Emma Richardson Burkett widow said she filed a claim against the Roosevelt estate. She states the cash loan was made June 21, 1912 and the note with Roosevelt and Charles J Shannon as endorser rests with Chemical National Bank New York acting as its representative.
