Charles Burgess and Fred Sweeney, Joliet youths, confessed to helping steal a Milwaukee car belonging to Dr. J. C. Jones. The car was taken to Racine and sold for 450 dollars to Mrs. Hattie Sweet of Joliet, who returned it to police. The lads face theft and defacing charges and are among several Milwaukee arrests linked to Joliet youths.

Joe Gualdoni aged 20 of 711 South Water Street is in St. Josephs hospital with serious injuries after diving from a springboard at Michigan Beach. He struck rocks at about 4 00 p m yesterday and attendants report possible back injuries.
Secretary of the Navy Denby cancelled the remainder of Rear Admiral Sims's leave in Washington and ordered his immediate return to the United States to provide a written and oral explanation of the controversial "Jack ass" speech. The action followed Sims's delay in replying to orders after delivering the speech to the English-speaking Union.
Times International Service reports at Camp Grant near Eford Illinois an officer and two enlisted men were jailed and 28 privates kept under surveillance as justice agents uncover a payroll padding scheme. The scheme allegedly created extra pay, split three ways, with Dearing keeping two thirds before distribution.

Motorists heading toward Chicago will find a broad concrete paving sweep in the Fairmount addition except for 16 blocks in Lockport. District highway engineer G N Lamb opened the segment from Riley hill to Berst corner. Detours were in place while concrete dried, with paving ahead from Sixteenth to First streets in Lockport yet to begin.
Rosa Ramiez a 30 year old cancer patient travels toward Texas with four children to place them with her mother before death. She sought funds Thursday from Margaret Arthur truancy officer. Nurse Ethel Winn of Elwood aided the effort as officials investigated. Ramiez who lived at 207 State Street was incurably ill and funds were raised by Associated Charities and Supervisor David Emery for her transportation.
Joliet Kiwanis members joined Boy Scouts at Camp Garnsey to build a large dam on the Dupage river. Construction began at 10 AM and finished by 6 PM under the supervision of Commissioner Frank Friedrich. Helpers included Nathan Goodspeed, Dr. John Leonard, and Dr. H. N. Flexer.
Joe Petrovich pleaded guilty to transporting six kegs of beer in county court and faces sentencing next Wednesday by Judge Cowing after being released on $1,000 bonds. Sheriff seized the beer Wednesday night. Concurrently, John Horvat and Charles Carlson faced related charges with not guilty pleas and bonds set at $1,000. Steve Shroba was fined $400 for selling liquor. George Munsich and Frank Votran cases yielded jail and fine penalties as well.
Thomas Molleski a Shea Taxi driver was fined 27.25 for employing a cab to Mrs Rose. Philips and George Williams were arrested on Meeker avenue for disorderly conduct with Philips fined 200 and Williams 5.25. Molleski and Philips stayed in rooms at the Greek rooming house on Van Buren street. a police search found slugs and knuckles in Molleski's room.
Ernest Hettman, arrested in Blue Island, faces murder charges in the Weaver case. Weaver, a farm hand on the Stephen Williams farm west of Lockport, was killed after reportedly carrying large sums of money. Sheriff Newkirk and deputies await the June 18 hearing before Justice Fred M. Hawk.
Charles A. Caton born 67 years ago at Caton Farm near here died Friday at his Ottawa home, where he lived 25 years. Funeral held here today. Survived by widow, six children and Joliet relatives including sister Mrs. Truman A. Mason brother A. R. Caton and nieces Mrs. T. V. Pyle and Miss Elizabeth Mason.
Plans for the Association of Commerce annual meeting on June 23 were finalized at a chairmen’s meeting. The program will proceed as announced with the Universalist auditorium as the venue, a dance being dropped due to the hot weather.

Wages settle near prior scales with bricklayers at 1.124 cents per hour and Hod Carriers at 18 to 85 cents. Over 500 common laborers to return Monday. arbitration debates continue as contractors resist one sided deals.
