A husband and wife and three children aged 14, 10, and 3 were fatally asphyxiated by carbon dioxide fumes from gas lamps burning near a water heater in their kitchen. The father appears to have brought in a partially decorated Christmas tree for a planned surprise as the family slept. A white dog, Prince, lay near the window. police reported a strong gas odor as the scene was broken into and rescued.
Jerseyville Illinois December 27 Government appointed a committee to appraise the estate of the late Charles W. Fairbanks former President of the United States for inheritance tax purposes. The report values the estate at 647,362.20 dollars, including 360 acres of leveed land in Greene ry with 18 miles of levees and 7,000 acres of tillable land.
Metrophan Hrabo well of 703 Irving street lost his savings after a bank withdrawal, travel to Chicago, and purchases of rubles and a saloon scheme. A Serbian accomplice and an armed partner robbed him near Jackson street but left him alive. Police have descriptions of both men.
Lessa Zsivanovita Gotschika, 19, died at 7:30 this morning at the Will County sanitarium. Funeral from parents home, 715 Fourth Avenue, Thursday at 2 PM. Burial in Elmhurst. Chicago Dec 27 1921 with county farm bureaus contributing 87 districts the Illinois Agricultural Association reports 775000 pounds of wool in the 1921 pool. Several counties joined or left the pool and Sangamon Mason and Scott counties show notable increases while new counties Massac Clay and Pulaski join.
The funeral of Mrs Martha O Hunt a pioneer resident of Will county was held Monday from her home in Frankfort Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery Rev Minor officiated She was born in Russellville Indiana September 2 1832 and died aged 89 She came to Illinois in 1834 in a covered wagon drawn by oxen They settled on Hickory creek Willard Owen homestead She married Mark W Hunt in 1856 Survived by three daughters Miss Addie Hunt Mrs Peter Folkers and Mrs R E Monslivera of Vinita Oklahoma Her husband and three sons died years earlier
In Rushville Illinois on December 27 Clifford Vincent of Ripley tied the knot with the woman linked to his murder case. He was charged after allegedly firing on Mildred Beckman in her home two weeks prior, but the plan to stay put halted further criminal proceedings. Vincent posted bond following a recent court action and the shooting incident appeared to be resolved.
Walter Dewey Langworthy and Har low H. Smith of Joliet were found dead in a Rock Island refrigerator car at Trenton Missouri on Christmas Day. Both 22 had left Joliet two months earlier to see the country and reportedly suffocated from charcoal burner gases used to keep warm. Smith was connected to the Telephone Service Company. Langworthy was related to William Adam of Cass Street. William Wunderlich, a former coroner, traveled to Trenton to arrange removal to Joliet. A Rock Island agent reported the finding from Kansas City.
In Cleveland Ohio Mrs Lil lian Ambrusinski 31 and her two children William 11 Jennie 8 died from an undetermined poison. Husband Felix 32 survived after regaining consciousness at St. Alexis hospital. Police report the family had drunk wine and tea and ate nothing in the prior 12 hours. Autopsy on Mrs Ambrusinski offered no cause.
William J. Beauley formerly of Joliet now in New York City had his divorce from Harriet W. Beauley set aside by New York Supreme Court for fraud. He was allowed to amend his complaint after remarriage. Mrs. Beauley contends she faced a frame up and misconduct allegations by him and detectives. The ruling was upheld by the Appellate Division. The amended suit will pursue additional misconduct charges against Mrs. Beauley.
NEW BRUNSWICK New Jersey December 27 A movement began in Sayreville after the arrest of mayor elect Edward E Clark to stop him from serving January 1 He was taken into custody by Prohibition Agent Samuel H Conie on charges he sold liquor at his hotel on October 21 and 22 He was arraigned before U S Commissioner Harry Ritchie and held for the federal grand jury's action.
Belfast December 27 One civilian was killed several others wounded and one policeman seriously hurt in an incident in the district today. Authorities reported gunfire and a disorderly confrontation as security forces moved to restore order amid rising tensions.
The Texas cattleman turned Fort Worth lawyer, Judge S. H. Cowan, attempts to address the Senate Interstate Commerce Committee on railroad rates. He arrives with documents to find only one or two Senators present, delays, then quips about reforming Senators. A second meeting is scheduled, and more senators slowly appear as he keeps up the argument. A later note adds a quip about a new indigestion cure.

Mike Hollick is held at the police station amid a report of a car vandalism spree. A Dodge at 123 Jersey Avenue was found with its curtains slashed after a Rivals Club visit, and a boy aided police in linking the suspect to 309 Granite Street where the landlady provided details.
