The Daily Sun notes Kate Claxton stars in Double Marriage at the Joliet Opera House tomorrow night. Also listed are local items on Decoration Day plans, a Pinafore Company effort for the Public Library, and brief notices of local residents and court actions.
A man named Edward Parr, 52, killed his daughter Mrs. Susan Irwin, 82, in a neighbor’s house in broad daylight after pursuing her for months. The victim’s screams drew frightened women and children from the room as Parr delivered six stabbing blows. Parr’s violent past includes prior prison terms for assaults, burglary, and an earlier crime against his daughter. The report also covers Joliet Memorial Association’s Decoration Day plans and election of officers, with a call for a meeting at the Court House on May 9.
The ladies of Ottawa Street M E Church host an ice cream social and musical entertainment this evening. It is the first event of the season and organizers expect a large crowd eager for ice cream cake and music.
Mr. D O Wilson visited Joliet last Friday and returned with a wagon load of beautiful house plants bought at Starrs gardens. Miss Ella Stafford and Sam Goodspeed visited Joliet and stayed with Mr and Mrs A Snow. Scroggs, Ham burg consul and former state senator, wed Nina Monroe in Bloomington on Tuesday night.
In the Plainfield man G N Chittenden’s accident he is now conscious and recovering from a broken limb with friends’ sympathy. Edward Larkin and family depart Joliet for Chicago where Larkin takes a new rail job and Dutton from Detroit succeeds him. Kate Claxton’s Double Marriage looms at the Opera House. Crosby leaves for Chicago to reside there.
Over the last twenty four hours First National Kankakee to Chicago moved 5500 bushels of corn while North Branch Peru to Chicago carried 6000. Steamer Peerless with Brilliant in tow for Carpenter and Marsh loaded 10800 bushels. Rosencranz Joliet to Morris and W A Steel Dresden to Patterson's Lime Kiln moved wood and poles. Peerless Ottawa bound carried 4800 corn awaiting orders. Ed H Heath with A Jackson and Champion from Henspen to Chicago carried 16800. A Woodson Joliet bound carried 8000 pickets and 72000 feet of lumber.
A four year old boy of Peter Spangler, one mile north of Plainfield, climbed a corn crib and fell from the roof edge. He sustained a broken leg and bruises. Dr Jump set the leg and dressed the wounds. He is doing well and expected to recover.
Rev. Mr. Axtell parked at the post office when a runaway animal caused chaos striking Mr. Kipp’s buggy and injuring a mare. The wrecked buggy blocked the street in front of Mr. Dyer’s store. Children’s cries cease after a single dose of Dr Bull’s Baby Syrup, priced at two cents.
Hershey Hall near McVickers hosts music guided by Mrs. Lera Hershey and Prof. H Clarence Eddy with Eddy’s organ recitals drawing on nearly a hundred works. The column blasts modern criminal trials for attacking witnesses and victims, cites Stevens and Young cases, and calls for court reform to curb lawyers’ misuses. Also notes a State Sunday School convention in Springfield and local classifieds on coal prices and bird food.
Jones' Nurseries promotes trees and nursery stock along Joliet and Plainfield road referencing old Shields farm. Notices announce Bert E Grosby remaining in Joliet for sign painting and an office over U S Express. Also offers property for sale or exchange in Joliet and Morris and free delivery of fruit and shade trees to city planters.
A Joliet Knights Templar conclave of Commandery No 4 E T meets at their asylum Wednesday evening the 7th for business and Red Cross work. Visiting Sir Knights are invited. By order of the E O. John B. Ferraran, Recorder.
Since the 2d day of March James Bruton a twelve year old English boy with fair complexion light brown hair and small features left home wearing a black cloth ribbed pantaloons a dark cloth vest a light brown overcoat with blue lining and a plush winter cap. Anyone with information should contact THE Son office to help his distressed mother Mrs. R Bruton.
