Attendees at the Unitarian Church last Sabbath heard an excellent program led by Joseph Hubbard organist Mrs Haight soprano Miss Logan alto Mr Battles bass Mr Richmond tenor Carl Lloyd conducted damus and the chorus. The audience praised the solo and chorus performances including Guide me O thou Great Jehovah. Due to the poor turnout the choir was asked to repeat the music next Sunday morning to accommodate more listeners.
After Prof. Palmer's course on physiology the ladies of the city adopt resolutions thanking him and recommending him as a public lecturer. The group signs a list of about 300 names and votes to publish the notice in city papers.
A young woman reports being attacked on Jefferson street after eight thirty last Saturday night with rain starting. The assailant, a tall man wearing a cap, fled into darkness. she screamed, alerting her mother and sisters. Police are urged to act while residents call for public vigilance and possibly a notice to quit the premises.
Ten seasoned artillerymen enlist and a plan to acquire two guns with limbers and harness at a remarkably low price of 120 dollars. A three-man committee will visit Rock Island or St Louis. Eighty dollars already subscribed as citizens pledge support to make this unit peerless in the state.
A tenant house owned by Mr. Johnson in the city’s southwest was broken into Saturday night by an unknown person who piled wood and kerosene soaked rags and paper on the kitchen floor and set it ablaze. The fire burned out quickly due to lack of draft, causing only floor damage and one broken window. Mr. St John discovered the scene Sunday morning after recently renting the building. Nearby, a new barn associated with the house had burned down not long before. Also noted is the upcoming Fifth Annual Supper at Central Presbyterian Church next Wednesday March 1 with a program described as particularly rich.

Prof Palmer and Mr Spencer present a stereopticon exhibition with dissolving view apparatus at the Baptist church on Wednesday evening March 1. Proceeds benefit the Sunday School library. Admission ten cents. tickets at Vance's furniture store and local agents. Sunday schools invited. Views include cities, statuary, landscapes, cataracts, mountains and comic images. Mart Murphy of Joliet married Mary F Shea of Lemont in a Sunday evening ceremony conducted by Rev Father Mackin. The couple begins life anew with public praise for Mart's recent conduct and steps toward prosperity and happiness.
John Hayden and Bridget Bergen were married at the bride’s father’s home in Manhattan on Friday February 25, with Rev Father Mackin officiating. Bridget Bergen is the daughter of M. Bergen.
