Indictments had been struck from the docket but were reinstated.
The trial of August Bischmann for assault to kill and murder began in the Circuit Court on Wednesday. He is charged with attempting to kill Carl Woerle or Monee after Woerle was beaten with a poker last February and is reportedly bedbound. Prosecution evidence closed this forenoon and the defense continues this afternoon with a potential night session to finish before adjournment. Meanwhile, a card game dispute among colored youths led to Brown and Madison arrest warrants for larceny after Anderson’s trunk was tossed from a house following a losing hand.
The Universalist Church ladies announce a social gathering next Thursday night at the Citizens Corp Armory. The venue change provides more room, and all are invited. Tickets stay at former prices. Refreshments will be served and Boyne’s band will furnish the music.
Jack McCarty, arrested on a state warrant for knocking down a prison employee and robbery attempt, was examined at Squire Millspaugh's office and discharged after no prosecution. Stolen from Frankfort Station in Will County Illinois a team of two horses a black gelding and a light gray pony build with weights 850 and 800 pounds. The black horse aged 10 and the gray 12 to 14 years old attached to a lumber wagon. Suspect is John Meyers 25 tall 5 feet 10 inches medium build with broken nose black curly hair and full round features.
