The Owl Club ladies plan another leap year party at the residence of Chas Goodspeed on Richard street. The Daily Sun notes the event amid its society notices, while Dr T H Metride advertises medical services in Masonic Block with offices on Herkimer Street near Cass.
A social Knights of Pythias gathering was held last night. Charley Arnold son of Sidney and Rose will have funeral services Sunday at 2 PM at Miss Avery’s house, with burial in Lockport. Judge McRoberts orders a venire for thirty Will County jurors. Ottawa street M E Church young ladies hold a missionary meeting tomorrow from 3 to 5 PM at Miss Jennie Rockey’s home.
Sometime ago Parks, a lawyer from Aurora, was fined for contempt by Judge Smith. Last Tuesday evening on a train, Parke assaulted the judge but passengers prevented harm.
The Naperville Protective Association waits for a thief to strike their stables and steal horses. They plan to catch and convict him before sunrise. The conversation club meets Saturday at 3 PM at Mrs Henry Fish residence to discuss Electric Light.
G F Wolf of Joliet visits Chicago Friday morning. Dr Bowen of Wilmington attends court. J Rapple Jr returns from Morris with cattle. Mrs J B Speer and Mrs Henry Sanger depart for Hot Springs. Mrs M L Wells of Springfield to address temperance meeting February 22 at Opera House with Mrs Carrie A Dean in charge of music. Circuit Clerk Crow pays $6779.59 after a judgment. Mr Packard departs by Rock Island train.
John McManus saloon keeper and Michael Troy fought in the street near McManus's Wilmington saloon. Troy sustained deep facial and head wounds. a pistol discharged after the scuffle. Troy was seized and examined as the case moved to court.
A letter from Leadville, Colorado describes high prices for basic goods, sparse timber, and a healthy but thin air climate as miners seek opportunities. It notes wages for carpenters and engineers, local minerals, and a warning about whiskey and exposure. The county board tax and fee book committee, led by Stassen Fryer Wilkie and Collins, studied old records ahead of the 28th meeting. Prof Swift of Rochester reports sighting a suspected comet.
