A city officer becomes entangled in a caper after a gang tries a theft. The officer's actions complicate the case, leading to a tense, unfolding incident that tests local law enforcement.
Mr Pensinger, a Five Mile resident with consumption, left the St. Louis depot and was pursued by a man who claimed his satchel. A struggle ensued at the Rock Island depot, an officer arrived, and Pensinger was jailed after claiming the stranger and satchel were misidentified. The suspect, James E Filkins, an ex convict, was later collared.
