Johnston County Board rescinds two school calendars
SMITHFIELD The Johnston County Board of Education on Monday rescinded the school calendars adopted six days earlier for 2025-26 and 2026-27 after they violated state calendar law. Chair Lyn Andrews and attorney Katie Cornetto said Wake County’s approach was grandfathered, not codified, and not available to other districts. To start a year before August 26 would require a year round calendar with July and June sessions, which the law does not permit.
