Local kids publish books through library program

Schools to redraw attendance boundaries in Johnston County

Smithfield consultant Mike Miller told the Johnston County Board of Education on June 11 that no plan will satisfy everyone as new boundaries are drawn for two new schools Swift Creek Elementary opening August 2025 and Wilson's Mills High a year later. The plan adds students to Benson schools and possibly Cooper Academy to address crowding while keeping feeder patterns intact and prioritizing proximity to home, though not every child can attend the closest school.
