Color Our World summer reading program launches
Sirenetta Library in Johnston County and Smithfield launches Color Our World summer reading program. It runs through July 31 and invites children teens and adults to read record progress and earn prizes like LEGO sets arts and crafts supplies and an Amazon Kindle. Themed library activities include story time crafts book clubs gardening music performances and game nights with take-home kits available.

Community Calendar Raffle Supports Harvesting Hope Garden
A Selma raffle to aid Harvesting Hope for North Carolina runs 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday June 7 at Selma Baptist Church 1500 N Webb St with 12 themed baskets. tickets 5 or 10 dollars. Proceeds fund Selma community garden which fed 9,300 pounds to hungry in Johnston County last year. Also Four Oaks hosts Art in the Garden June 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 505 N Main St with artists showing paintings pottery jewelry and more in Ellen Adams historic Strickland House garden. Archer Lodge offers youth softball clinic for 9 to 13
Sign ups are underway for three sessions of a youth softball clinic for ages 9 through 13. Dates are June 9 to 11, July 7 to 9, and August 4 to 6, 9 a.m. to noon at Archer Lodge Town Park. Fees are 25 dollars for residents and 40 dollars for others. Register online or at Town Hall.
