Clayton nears downtown social district approval

Schools cut preschool enrollment in budget move
SMITHFIELD The Johnston County Board of Education on April 9 reduced pre kindergarten slots from 865 to 566 for the coming fall, citing the end of ESSER federal relief funds. Chief Academic Officer Anna Kuykendal said the district cannot incur large debts while maintaining services for exceptional children and funding other enrollment streams.
