Bartholomew J Callery of 298 Third Street nephew of Policeman Callery at Gregory street station returns from infantry service in the Philippines. He enlisted in the Fourth U S Infantry Company F in 1899 and sailed on the Warren Transport. His first battle at Emos left him with a deep cheek wound from a sabre. Three men were killed and twenty five wounded in that battle with five hundred Filipinos captured. Earlier he served in the Fifteenth U S Infantry in Cuba and fought at San Juan Hill where his father died. He did not come directly from the Philippines and recently lived in Mackintosh Texas as a hospital patient.
Mrs. George TR. Hough says City Comptroller Hough is gaining strength daily and plans to be at his office next Monday. He remains at Montvale for now.
