May 8 1896 Colimbus Indiana reports a strange death of a seven year old boy, John H Wilson, supposedly an attorney, who died at City Hospital. His belt contained eight dollars twenty cents, and three dollars eighty five cents in a pocket, with a watch noted. The report is fragmentary and unclear in places.
Reports from San Francisco describe a violent brawl between US gunboat Petrel sailors and British Marines from HMS Spartan in Shanghai on Washingtons Birthday week. The altercation began ashore after champagne and knives were used in a hand to hand clash, with damages running into thousands of dollars and an official inquiry following.
