Jersey City's Free Public Library building opens to the public with a multi hour dedication. Mayor Hoos extols the project as thousands tour the new stacks, listen to music, and praise the trustees and donors for ten years of effort.
Dr L J Gordon leads ceremony as city honors trustees for building the modern library with fourteen delivery stations and extensive collections. Mayor Hoos presents a carved gavel to Gordon amid praise for Trustees Stephen Harvey Voorhees Ridde Luby and Seton cautions youth to read classics while Monsignor Seton offers benediction and the crowd tours the new facility.

The Minkakwa Republican Club held a regular meeting at its club house on Ocean and Danforth avenues. Newly elected officers were installed and refreshments served after business. Patrick H Laverty longtime Democratic figure and former Hudson County Sheriff died at his Hoboken home at 71 from an aneurysm of the aorta. Survived by two daughters and two sons, the Hoboken resident led a public career from Treland to Jersey City and beyond, serving as assessor, school director, state prison keeper nominee, and a delegate to the 1876 National Democratic Convention. Funeral set for Thursday.
Liberty Pleasure Club held its annual ball at Columbia Hall attracting upwards of 800 attendees. The grand march led by club president Henry Lane and Miss Cecelia Taussig featured a rose presentation to Miss Taussig, while the Friends Club gave the president a silver watch.

Executive Committee combines county committee members and six association members with five trustees to be named next meeting. Ranks welcome a united ward democracy under leader Robert Davis.
The Police Mutual Aid Society held its annual meeting at Police Headquarters. An almost entirely new slate was elected, with three Second precinct officers succeeding longtime incumbents. The captain of the Sixth precinct also won in opposition to an incumbent. Officers include President John F. Kelly and other Second precinct members. The change sparks criticism and claims of a Second precinct job to gain control, with a large turnout and strong support for Second precinct candidates.
Edward McLeary of 508 Grand Street attempted twice to end his life last night in New York streets and on a ferry. A Baltimore ferry crew and officer thwarted two desperate acts including a bolic acid attempt before McLeary was detained at Gregory Street station.

The delegation left in tears. A Cincinnati telegram mocking heavyweight prospects was ignored. The freak Legislature scene grew with Samuel Warwick arrival seeking tax and prison reform bills for Salem County and abolition of the State Prison.

Flames swept the front windows of Mrs. B. W. Throckmorton's residence on Lip Avenue and the Boulevard last Friday. Lace curtains in an upstairs room and a Charity Ball gown were burned. two ladies suffered burns but were treated by a physician, avoiding major damage to the home.
