Caved Roadway Blocked After Heavy Rain on Newark Avenue

A fresh rock cave-in on the east side of Newark Avenue hill between Palisade Avenue and the bridge disrupted traffic with trucks and trolley cars forced to share space outside tracks. County Superintendent Smith reported the danger to Street and Water Board. repairs will proceed promptly after signaling the hazard.

Accused Stabber John Vinest Faces Court

John Vinest, 52, of 136 Kessex Street, faced the First Criminal Court on a charge of atrocious assault and battery against Paul Narowski, who boards in the same house. Vinest allegedly helped two others break into Ann Yonkowski’s apartments and stabbed Narowski with a knife. Vinest denied the charges, saying a fight was in progress and he separated the combatants, claiming Narowski was bleeding from a head wound when he emerged and grabbed him.

Brother Assault Leads to Arrest in Phillip Street Quarrel

Patrolman Egan arrested Eugene Duffy aged eighteen of 168 Phillip Street for assault and battery on his brother John after a quarrel at their home. Eugene struck John on the head with a pitcher, causing scalp wounds. John was taken to City Hospital and Eugene held in the Second Criminal City court.

Thomas Coughlin of 305 Wood wards was arraigned in Gal First Criminal Court charged with larceny of 35 dollars from roommate Dennis Barrett. The pocketbook with the money was taken from a pocket of his trousers while Barrett slept yesterday afternoon. On arrest, Barrett's pocketbook containing 33.14 was found on him.
