A Republican candidate from Acifersonmville and Clark County will address local voters at Pythias Armory Thursday evening in September. The speaker will explain the reasons behind high taxes and propose remedies for taxpayers. Citizens are urged to attend and bring neighbors.

Jeffersonville began the new term under Superintendent E M Crouch who secured broad attendance across Jeffersonville Clarksville and Port Fulton. About 2500 pupils returned this morning. new principals Harry Groat and John Potter joined the staff along with several reshuffled teachers.
The Wieh School opened at 8:30 with 308 students enrolled. Freshmen numbered 4104. The overall grade schools total 1066 with Chestnut Street 306 Spring Hill 188 Pearl Street 155 Colored School 1814 in the grades and 20 in high school. Grand total on first day 1394.
A new dinkey service started Sunday by the Pennsylvania lines provides suburban runs from Jeffersonville to Louisville with a 6:00 a.m. departure and a return near the same time. Three daily Jeffersonville to New Albany trips depart 7:05 a.m., 1:41 a.m., and 6:15 p.m. from Ninth Street depot, with initial North tower launch five minutes early. The Louisville trip is about ten minutes, avoiding the Wall Street transfer at Jeffersonville Junction, and connecting Jeffersonville with New Albany via Ohio Falls for trains to Louisville.
Harry White, colored, was fined one dollar and costs in Police Court for assault and battery on Izzy Hunt this morning. Judge Benson R. Veasey presided.
Charles Talkington, superintendent of the State Penal Farm at Putnamville, says a claim has been filed with State Treasurer George A Bitler for railroad fare to return prisoners released from the farm. The claim, covering inmates discharged up to September 1 and those to be released in September, must be paid by September 25 per Board of Prospects ruling. County Auditor Stoner sought counsel before drawing a payment warrant as to the need for county appropriation.
Ann Rogers Clark Chapter D A R sends invitations to nine Sunday schools and Clark County public schools to join the centennial parade on September 30. Exercises for children to be held at the courthouse ward with a general representation planned.

The ceremony for Miss Nellie Elizabeth Kerr daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Kerr and Eugen Francis O Niel will be held at 8 o’clock on September 28 at 211 W Court Avenue parents of the bride elect. The groom elect is a son of Mr and Mrs George O Nich West Maple Street.
