Five hours after Patrolman Charles Hill was found dead with five bullet wounds in a gutter Jersey City police officer Vincent Cash was arrested for the murder. Chief Monahan says Cash confessed but plans a plea of self defense claiming Hill attacked him with a night stick. No mark on Cash’s body to confirm that claim. Cash is 25 and serving 19 months on the force.
C. H. Jennison of Alamitos Bay near Long Beach planned to move his home back 20 feet. A massive storm sent a breaker under the house, lifting and settling it gently on a new foundation the next day. A milk pail and coffee pot on the table remained unspilled. Mrs Jennison and two children were away during the relocation.
Mary Tinsley and Vee Tinsley were charged with assault and battery on Columbus Richards and the case was continued until Tuesday morning to resolve a legal point. Arche Mathewson, charged with intoxication, was fined five dollars plus costs.
News reaches James T. Berry of this city about his brother Samuel W. Berry’s death in Newport Kentucky from apoplexy. He was about forty two and leaves a son. A sister, Mrs. R. W. Nelson, also survives in Newport.
After a long hearing before Mayor Ernest W Rauth the charge of assault and battery against Oscar L Hay was dismissed yesterday for Henry Krimpleman.
In Glark Circuit Court Judge Paris hears a divorce suit filed by Laurant A. Douglass for Luke Short against Maude L. Short. Short seeks custody of Oliver Edward Herbert J and Alvin, claiming Maude neglects marital duties. The case names Joseph Higden due to alleged relations with Mrs Short. Short's occupation listed as carpenter.
Adam Popp and Oliver H Davis seek a venue change from Harrison county for liquor licenses to Sellersburg. Judge William Ridley will hear the cases next Tuesday March 2 after the boards remonstrance over voter qualification and registration. The county commissioners granted the licenses, appeals ensued, and sabors remain in operation in Sellersburg.
